Computers are very important to modern life. Many people think that in the future computers will be used in lots of everyday life. It is thought that we wont have to go shopping because we will be able to get most things which are sold in shops on the Internet. There will be no more books because we will be able to get all texts from computers. The Internet will be used to play games, see films and buy food. Most telephone calls will be made by computers, too.

Some people are glad about these new ways of shopping and communicating(交际). Others do not think that computers will replace our old ways.

Lets look at books, for example. Some people think that one day we will not read books made of paper. Instead, we will buy and read books using computers. We will read texts on small pocket computers. The computers will keep many different books in them at the same time. We wont need to turn lots of pages and paper will be saved. Computerized(计算机化) books will be used more and more.

Is Internet shopping such a pleasure as going to the shop? Many people say it is not. It is a pleasure to go in to shops and look at things you want to buy. It is also unlikely that many people will want to read large texts on our computers. Because paper books will perhaps be more friendly. Maybe computers wont change these two habits.

                              1. In paragraph(段落)1 it is thought people will use computers for _______.

                              A. playing games, shopping and making telephone calls

                              B. making telephone calls, having meals and seeing films

                              C. seeing films, buying food, and going for holidays

                              D. playing games, making telephone calls and seeing the doctor

                              2. Which reason for using computerized books is NOT said in the passage?

                              A. Computerized books wont be very expensive.

                              B. Computers can keep many different books in them.

                              C. We wont have lots of pages.

                              C. about computerized books

                              D. about future uses of computers

They are: (1) green and yellow vegetables of all kinds. People in different countries eat at different times of the day. In some places people eat once or twice a day; in other countries people eat three or four times a day. Scientists say that none of the differences is really important. It doesnt matter whether foods are eaten raw(生的) or cooked, canned or frozen. It doesnt matter if a person eats dinner at 4 oclock in the afternoon or at eleven oclock at night. The important thing is what you eat every day.

                              Paragraph 3

                              4. C。 在 Paragraph 3里要解决的二个问题之一就是 find some ways to feed the worlds population so that no one is hungry(?#19994;?#35299;决饥饿问题的方法)。

Most people around the world are right-handed. This also seems to be true in history. In 1799, scientists studied works of art made at different times from 1,500 B.C. to the 1950s. Most of the people shown in these works are right-handed, so the scientists guessed that right-handedness has always been common through history. Today, only about 10% to 15% of the worlds population is left-handed.

Why are there more right-handed people than left-handed ones? Scientists now know that a persons two hands each have their own jobs. For most people, the hand is used to find things or hold things. The right hand is used to work with things. This is because of the different work of the two sides of the brain. The right side of the brain, which makes a persons hands and eyes work together, controls the left hand. The left-side of the brain, which controls the right hand, is the centre for thinking and doing problems. These findings show that more artists should be left-handed, and studies have found that left-handedness is twice as common among artists as among people in other jobs.

No one really knows what makes a person become right-handed instead of left-handed. Scientists have found that almost 40% of the people become left-handed because their main brain is damaged when they are born. However, this doesnt happen to everyone, so scientists guess there must be another reason why people become left-handed. One idea is that people usually get right-handed from their parents. If a person does not receive the gene(基因) for right-handedness, he / she may become either right-handed or left-handed according to the chance and the people they work or live with.

Though right-handedness is more common than left-handedness, people no longer think left-handed people are strange or unusual. A long time ago, left-handed children were made to use their right hands like other children, but today they dont have to.

                              1. After studying works of art made at different times in history, the scientists found _______.

                              A. the art began from 1,500 B.C.

                              D. most people shown in the works of art are left-handed

                              2. How many people in the world are left-handed now?

                              A. Less than one sixth. B. More than a half.

                              C. About 40%. D. The passage doesnt tell us.

                              A. Its used to find or hold things.

                              C. Its used to make a persons eyes work together.

                              D. Its the centre for thinking and doing problems.

                              4. According to the passage, which of the following is NOT true?

                              C. Which Hand D. Different Brains, Different Hands

                              1. C。 在第1段中我们可?#19994;?#36825;样的句子…Most of the people shown in these works are right-handed,所以答案是 C

                              2. A。 Today, only about 10% to 15% of the worlds population is left-handed 我们可知现在世界人口中有10%15%的人是 left-handed,那?#20174;?#27492;数接近的应该是 less than one sixth(不到六分之一)
